It looks like Ingebjørg may have gone to Sandvin around 1800 and met Lars Olsson there, resulting in child, Kari, my great-great grandmother. Lars Olsson’s father was also the father of Ingebjørg’s half brother, confusingly also called Lars Olsson, so the families were connected. When Kari was born in 1801, Ingebjørg was living at home with her parents.

Marriage: In 1809 Ingebjørg married Ola Jonsson (1782-1855) from Hjeltnes brn.2 Skjølavikje. They had 6 children (see below). They lived at a croft/smallholding under Bagne (Brn. 6, Pl.1: Træe ) where Ola took over the farm after his father-in-law. By the time of his death in 1855 he was a welfare recipient. Ingebjørg went on to live with her daughter Kari at Lekve.

1813 – Jon (1813-1899), married twice
- in 1844 to Torbjørg Jakobsdatter Bagnsnes – they had no children
- in 1848 to Barbra Olsdatter Håheim – they had 7 children:
  1. Torbjørg (1849-1929?) unmarried went to Torblå
  2. Ingebjørg (1852-1935), married Gunnar Larsson Bego in 1876, lived at Byrse (brn1, Pl2 Kvemmadokkje)
  3. Brita (1854-?), was still living in 1865
  4. Begga (1857-1940), unmarried and lived at Torblå
  5. Brita (1860-?) married Tjærand Fatland, Skånevik in 1883
  6. Rikoll (1859 -1946 ), took over the farm after his parents. Married Brita Torfinnsdatter Holkavik in 1883. they had 3 children:
    1. Barbra (1883-1949), married Johannes Urdal and had 9 children
    2. Ingebjørg (1887-1970) married Mandrup Olsson
    3. Torfinn (1891-1973)
  7. Marta (1864-?), married Ola Hillesdal in 1897
1816 – Nils (1816-1849), unmarried
1818 – Sjur (1818-1886), emigrated to USA in 1850 where he married Cecilia Bolstad. They had 6 children
1820 – Brita (1820-1822)
1823 – Ola, married in 1854 to Jorond Hallsteinsdatter and emigrated to the US the same year. He was the first Norwegian to settle in Wascea Co in Minnesota which at the time was wilderness with lots of conflicts with the local Indians.

1865 – Dec 31 865 for Lekve, Ulvik: Daakken
- Kari Larsdatter, 65 years old, a window and a cottager
- her mother Ingeborg Nilsdatter, 85 years old widow and a welfare recipient
- a lodger Herborg Olsdatter, 56, unmarried cripple
- a lodger Nils Davidsen, 23 year old unmarried day labourer.

Notes

In various church records and census data her name is recorded as Ingeborg but the farm books call her Ingebjørg.

There is a relationship between the families of Ingebjørg Nilsdatter and Lars Olsson Sandvin. Lars father, Ole, had a child with Ingebjørg’s mother, Herborg, in 1668. This half-brother of Ingebjørg was confusingly also called Lars.

It is not possible to say for certain where Ingebjørg met Lars Olsson. Their daughter, Kari, must have been conceived around August 1800, six months before the 1801 Census. It is possible that Ingebjørg was visiting or working at Lars’ parents farm and that when she discovered she was pregnant she went back home to her parents and Lars disappeared elsewhere.
