In 1863 Nils had a daughter with Hilleborg Arnesdatter, they were not married. He then married Anna Andersdatter and went on to have 6 children with her.

  1. 1863 – Anna – with Hilleborg Arnesdatter Sygnistveit (1845 – ?). According to the farm books the mother and daughter moved to the USA in 1866 where Hilleborg married Gulbrand Olsson Myrhaug. Anna married Peder Carlson and they had 4 children.
  2. 1871 – Kari (1871-73) (dates from farm book p 299: 1872-73)
  3. 1874 – Kari Nilsdatter * (born 8 Aug 1874 and died 12 October 1935, Møre & Romsdal)
    • Married Rasmus Andreas Guttormsson  Myklebust (1870-1949) on 28-06-1902 and moved to Sunnmøre.
    • Children: Gudrun (1905-?), Nordvald Arvid (1911 – 1951), Anna Marie (1913-?) & Johanna (1915-1966)
  4. 1887 – Anders Nilsen Osa (born 7 April 1877 and died 16 Jan 1953, Kinsarvik )
    • Married to Kristi Ivarsdatter Dale (1887 – 1957) on 28-10-1906
    • Children:  Nils (1907-1956), Anna (1909-1992), Ivar (1911-1971)
  5. 1880 – Guro Nilsdatter (born 11 Feb 1880 and died 28 Nov 1947 Ullensvang)
    • Married on 14-10-1904 to Jon Ivarsen Lutro Dale (1884-1934),
    • Children: Helena (1905-1885?), Ivar (1909-1964), Nils (1914-1967)
  6. 1884 – David Nielsen Osa  (born 18 Oct 1884 Osa and died 20 Oct 1918 Montana) –
    • Left Norway after 1900 census – records:
      1. 1905 – New York via Liverpool, Arrival 20 Mar, 1905 then Vister Colorado Friend Hegbret Stenseth 128 Spork Str, Victor, Colorado??
      2. 1914 – from Bergen to New York  -> Back from visiting Norway. Record says he was naturalised (Naturalised District Court of Teller County, at Cripple Creek, 16 Sept 1913) but I can’t find the record.

Census data

  • 1865 – Daakken, Ulvik, has Nils living with his mother Kari Larsdatter who own the farm. He is a day worker.
  • 1875 – Brakøina, Ulvik, has Nils as a cottager with his wife, Anna and their daughter Kari. His mother is also living with them.
  • 1891 – Osa, Ulvik has Nils and Anna with their children Anders, Guro, David and Lars. Kari is not living with them. He was a farmer but also did some fishing.
  • 1900 – Hjallane, (Osa) has Nils and Anna with their sons David and Lars.
  • 1910 – Hjallane (Osa) – Anna is still there but Nils is now dead. David has gone to the US but Lars is also still there, and now his brother Anders is living there with his wife Kristi Ivarsdatter, their son Nils, and daughter Anna.

Farm books

Nils was a crofter at Osa (brn. 6 pl 4: Brakøyne). He then lived at Kvåle (bnr 3, pl 3). He got the deeds, from Oddmund Olsson 1887. He then moved back to Osa (brn. 2: Hjadlane), and in 1891 ‘styrde han stampa i Osa’. (a water-powered treadmill used to to shrink wadding.)
