Birth

Anders Olsen was born in Sem on 4 September 1800 according to his death record. He was confirmed on 29 June 1817 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070603690068  #24)

[Foreldre ‘Ole Olsen & Berit Andersdtr Svennes eie’, ‘Døbt I Bi:ki: 13-8: n: Trin: 1800’ | ‘Maadelig Kundskab og slæt Opdragelse fra Barndomen(?)’]

Less is known about where Kari Pedersdatter came from but she was probably born around 1795. It’s difficult to say where she was from or who her parents were, as she was born in the period for which the church books are missing.

Marriage and children

Anders and Kari were never married but they had a son, Ole Andersen, together. He was born on 6 Oct 1822, in Alseth, Biri. It doesn’t look like Anders and Kari had any further contact.

Anders Olsen

On 25 October 1822 Anders married Mari Haagensdatter (1797-1883) in Ringsaker. They had the following children:

  1. Ole 1823, Svenneseier – f 22 August 1823 Svenneseie, Biri  (b14/9) — https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000006711446  Svenneseie; married Karen Jørgensdatter (1822-?) Children:

  7. Beate 1840 – f 26 Aug 1840, Liereng (b 13/9)

Since Kari was a widow when she died, according to her death record, she is most likely the Kari Pedersdatter who married late in life in 1849 to Ole Jørgensen (1795-1879).

Kari Pedersdatter

It looks like Kari had a second illegitimate son, Kristian Evensen, on 26 February 1825, this time with a now married man, Even Amundsen. The record goes on to say he was not married at the time the child was conceived.

It looks like Kari could have married a widower, Ole Jørgensen (1795-1879), late in life. They married 26 May 1849 and her age is given as 53.

Death

Anders Olsen Liereng died 7 June 1878. The record gives his date of birth as 4 September 1800. He lived at Liereng at the time of his death and was survived by his wife.

It looks like Kari Pedersdatter Kalverudeie died on 14 April 1887. The death was notified by Kristian Evenson, her son. The record goes on to say that she was probably born around 1790 at Skarseth.

Anders Olsen can also be found in both the 1865 and 1875 census data but I haven’t found any likely Kari Pedersdatter in 1875.

According to the data I have Kari should be alive in 1875. If indeed she married Ole Jørgensen, as has been suggested, it’s probable that he would have been alive in 1875 too. There is no indication that she moved out of the area but I have not found her in the 1875 census records for Biri living with her husband Ole. I have found a married Kari Pedersdatter born about 1795 who in 1875 was living at Kjenset, which is near Skarset where she was supposedly born. This could well be her but where was Ole?

  • Mari Haagensdatter (1795 Ringsaker), his wife

Other information

There were two possible Ole Andersen born about the right period with Anders Olsen as a father. I have come to the conclusion that the same Anders Olsen was the father of both. The 1801 census lists his parents and some of his siblings.

The origins of Kari Pedersdatter are more uncertain and not helped by several missing church books for the period. Searching the 1801 census data there are a couple of possibilities. The first option is from Stue Ekeren and lists a Kari Pedersdatter, aged 6 and provided for by the parish (– https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01058258001004). Looking at the other residents there is nothing to link her to my Kari but unfortunately, this is the most likely as the Kari Pedersdatter in the other option, for Kluge, died unmarried as shown in probate records.
